Many of you will not know about the Avis Lux award. Avis was an actress who appeared in many plays in the nineteen seventies. When she died suddenly her husband Brian donated a silver tray in her memory. It was to be awarded to a member of the theatre who in the opinion of the committee has made an outstanding contribution to the theatre over the last

season. Each year the committee deliberates over who should receive this award and it is presented at the AGM.
This year it was awarded to Stella Blackburn, who as you know looks after the ticket sales. For every play, assisted by her husband Jack, she handles all the ticket bookings usually returning

Last season we replaced the lighting system with a new computerised system, now it's the turn of the sound. By the first play of the season (Inspector Drake's Perfekt Crime) the sound system will have been replaced. We have been running on a mixture of old amplifiers and speakers since

we moved into the present building in 1962. Modern play requirements have been stretching the system to almost breaking point. In fact it has been touch and go whether the system would hold up for some of the plays. We will be installing a modern sound mixing desk and higher powered

speakers along with a professional amplifier and protected cabling, this will stop our personal radios interfering with the system. We hope with the improvements in the technical systems and the new seating we can provide a comfortable and entertaining night out.

A Prayer for the Stressed

We all have personal worries, traumas and tribulations that we have to cope with day in and day out and at times all we want to do is scream. Instead why not remember this little prayer that John our Press Officer has sent to us. He says it has worked for him! And helps to remind him to use the 28 muscles recommended instead of the 4 also mentioned.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill today because they got on my nerves.
Also, help me to be careful of the toes I step on today as they may be connected to the feet I may have to kiss tomorrow. Help me to always give 100% at work….. 12% on Monday, 23% on Tuesday, 40% on Wednesday, 20% on Thursday and 5% on Fridays. And help me to remember….. When I am having a bad day and it seems that people are trying to wind me up, It takes 42 muscles to frown, 28 to smile, and only four to extend my arm and smack someone in the mouth!!!
