The Club News

A New Season

Inside this issue:

Once again it's time to send out the membership renewals for the season.
We have an exciting line up of productions for your entertainment this season, judging from the laughter I have heard coming from the rehearsal room during the readings to cast the plays you should be in for a treat.  With this newsletter you will have received a programme for the new season. If you have any

friends who would like to join we will be glad to send them a copy of the programme, just send us the name and address and we will do the rest.
Unfortunately we have had to increase the membership subscription slightly for the coming season. It has been increased to £20.00 per person and £10.00 for persons under  18 years old. The prices for casual tickets at the door will remain at £5.00 per person and

the country membership will also remain at £5.00 a modest increase you will agree.
What is country membership you ask? Well country membership was introduced about 10 years ago to allow members who move out of the district to remain in contact with the theatre, each country member receives a copy of the newsletters.

Time and Talents

As you read this late holidays will soon be upon us, nights just beginning to draw in, work in the garden receding and the prospect of Autumn and Winter looming with it's share of dull rainy days being even more frequent than of late.
For some time now Barry Swithenbank and Ian Hazelgrove have been spending Thursdays at the theatre doing odd jobs and set building.
Are there any more retired persons who could give some time to the theatre either regularly or irregularly in this way? Barry and Ian start at around 10.30am and work

through to 4.00pm with breaks for coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. If you could spare the time, mornings only, afternoons only or all day you would be most welcome.
The only skills you require are those that you need around your home. Could you perhaps put a shelf up, paint, wallpaper, build with meccano (we have giant meccano) or just hold something while it is fixed? The work is not strenuous.
Theatre is an illusion and there is real satisfaction in helping to produce the settings for our shows, beginning with an enpty space and seeing the special effects created in the

most ingenious ways.
If you would like to try your hand at this give Barry a call on 0161 980 7743, he will be pleased to hear from you.
If you are unsure he will arrange to meet you at the theatre to explain and show you our needs in detail--and incidentally this is not solely directed at our male members there is work for all.
If this "Club Thursday" expands we may be able to arrange other activities, perhaps the odd pub lunch or backstage visits to professional theatres.
